Information on where and how to access statistical and mathematical software.


MATLAB, which stands for MATrix LABoratory, is an interactive mathematical software program for numerical computation and data visualization. It is used extensively in both academia and industry.

This page provides information for the University of Melbourne community regarding where to access MATLAB on campus; how students can purchase a licensed copy for use on their own computer; and links to MATLAB support material.

Access and Support

Staff and Students

IT Infrastructure (University Services), on behalf of the University, holds a site license for Mathworks programs including MATLAB. Staff and students may install the program using these instructions. See also the knowledge base article for MATLAB (staff access only).


MATLAB is installed on all Library computers on campus. It may also be available in Faculty and Graduate School-owned computer labs.



MATLAB is available to all students via myUniApps

Student versions may be available from the Co-Op Bookshop (phone: 8344 4088) or can be purchased from the MathWorks online store
