The LOTE Domain supports the teaching of a second language to all primary and secondary school students.

The Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages is now available. The shape paper provides broad directions for the development of languages curriculum. Writing of languages curriculum will now commence, starting with F-10 Chinese and Italian and a Framework for Aboriginal languages and Torres Strait Islander languages.

VELS is no longer the current curriculum in use. For comparative purposes this site provides access to the former Curriculum Standards document outlining the two learning pathways for the LOTE domain. Pathway 1 contains six levels and the Pathway 2 consists of two levels. Standards are organised by dimension from Level 4 in Pathway 1 and Level 5 in Pathway 2.

The Victorian Curriculum F–10 incorporates the Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities and standards. In levels 7 - 10, students become familiar with the sounds of French, including pronunciation, rhythm, pitch and stress.
