The Victorian Curriculum F–10 incorporates the Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities and standards. Students recognise and approximate the pronunciation, rhythms and intonation patterns of more extended phrases and compound sentences. They use words with more complex syllable combinations and become more fluent and accurate in both spoken and written language production. They gain more control of grammatical and textual elements. They use the passé composé tense of verbs conjugated with avoir and être, recognise the form and function of reflexive verbs, and use elements such as possessive adjectives and object pronouns. They use expressive and descriptive language to talk about feelings and experiences. They develop understanding of the nature of both translation and interpretation, noticing the relationship between language, texts and culture.
The Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages is now available. The shape paper provides broad directions for the development of languages curriculum. Writing of languages curriculum will now commence, starting with F-10 Chinese and Italian and a Framework for Aboriginal languages and Torres Strait Islander languages.

This document outlines the two learning pathways for the LOTE domain: Pathway 1 contains six levels and the Pathway 2 consists of two levels. Standards are organised by dimension from Level 4 in Pathway 1 and Level 5 in Pathway 2.
