Guide to the Library for the IAP

This guide is an introduction to the University Library for students participating in the Intensive Academic Program (IAP) and includes information on borrowing, finding information (catalogue and Discovery), citation guides and EndNote.

How do I tell where an item on the catalogue is held?

The location (library or collection) where an item is held is noted on the catalogue record as circled. Click on the location name for full details and where to find it.

The catalogue or Discovery?

The library has two main search functions; the catalogue and Discovery.

A search in the library catalogue provides location details for most physical items held by the library (some items located in Special Collections and Archives are not recorded in the online catalogue).

The library catalogue also contains records for electronic books and electronic journal titles held by the library. You can click through from these records to access the item content.

The library catalogue however does not index individual electronic journal or periodical articles. To search within an electronic database or electronic journal for specific content you will need to use Discovery.

Try the Discovery Subject Research Guide for more detailed information on Discovery.
