Zotero

An introduction to Zotero

Finding Full Text Via Discovery

To configure Zotero to find full-text resources through Discovery:

  1. Click on the gear/cog icon above the left pane of your Zotero window
  2. Select Preferences, then Advanced
  3. Under the heading OpenURL, add the following to the Resolver box: http://sfx.unimelb.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/sfxlcl41

Then you can select any reference in Zotero and click the locate button (a green arrow) and select: Library Lookup.

A SourceIt@Melbourne window will then appear listing links to items held in the Library database subscriptions.

Adding References by Identifier

  • You can quickly add references to your library if you already know their ISBN, Digital Object Identifier (DOI), or PubMed ID.
  • To add a reference via one of these identifiers, click the “Add Item by Identifier” button at the top, type or paste in the identifier and press Enter

Retrieving Metadata for PDF

  • Some PDF files contain bibliographic metadata
  • To extract the metadata, right-click on the PDF and select “Retrive Metadata for PDF”

  • Zotero will create a new library item, downloads the bibliographic metadata from and attaches the original PDF to the new item.

Switching Languages

By default, the user interface (UI) of Zotero  is displayed in the same language as Firefox. For example, if you download and install the Chinese version of Firefox, your Zotero UI will automatically appear in Chinese.

To change the language of the Zotero UI to English, you can  follow these instructions:

  • open Preferences→Advanced→Open about:config).  Dismiss the “This might void your warranty!” warning.
  • set intl.locale.matchOS to false.
  • Restart Firefox.
