An introduction to Zotero

Creating "Collections" for your References

  • The folders where references are stored in Zotero are called Collections
  • To create a new collection, go to the icon on the far left of the Add on panel
  • Select New Collection.
  • Alternatively, right-click on “My Library” and choose “New Collection” and give a name for the new collection

  • Give the new Zotero Collection a meaningful name (e.g. your name, the area of study, or the title of your degree program etc.)
  • You will now see your new Zotero Collection folder.
  • To add items to a collection, drag-and-drop them onto a collection. 
  •  “My Library” always shows all items (other than those in the trash).
