ASIA90001: Human rights in Southeast Asia: Selected online databases

A Select Directory of Databases (ASIANRES), contains information on selected Asia/Pacific related databases and services. The primary focus here is research, the social sciences and humanities, and smaller, less commercial, databases that are being developed in the Asia/Pacific region. It covers the period up to 2001.

This on-line version of the Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) contains records on all subjects (especially in the humanities and the social sciences) pertaining to East, Southeast, and South Asia published worldwide from 1971 to the present. The BAS is updated regularly, with batch posting of thousands of new entries in each upload.

The Indian Biography Database (INDBIO), produced by the School of Politics, La Trobe University, Melbourne, is a database containing details of the members of India's lower-house (the Lok Sabha) of Parliament elected between 1977 and 1991. The database includes biographical information provided by the members of parliament, and includes death dates, references to obituary notices, and notes about recent events in legislators' careers. INDBIO provides a comprehensive dictionary of the men and women who have been India's legislators since 1977. Five general elections have been held in that period. Records in INDBIO include fields for elements such as personal name, religion, date of birth, political party and the parliaments in which a person served.

he Index Islamicus database indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world. It is produced by an editorial team working at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, established to transmit knowledge about Islamic and Middle East studies, which have traditionally been part of the curriculum of SOAS. Records included in the database cover almost 100 years of publications on the world of Islam. Material cited in the Index Islamicus includes not only work written about the Middle East, but also about the other main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere. Over 3,000 journals are monitored for inclusion in the database, together with conference proceedings, monographs, multi-authored works and book reviews. Journals and books are indexed down to the article and chapter level.
