Researcher profiles and identifiers

What is a Web of Science ResearcherID?

ResearcherID is a unique identifier that enables researchers to track citation metrics and scholarly works within Web of Science (WoS).

You can generate a ResearcherID by registering for a WoS researcher profile. Alternatively, if you already have publications indexed by WoS, you can claim an automatically generated author record and ResearcherID.

Your ResearcherID will:

  • Be linked to your author record / researcher profile on Web of Science.
  • Follow you throughout your career, regardless of changes to affiliations or personal details.
  • Link documents published by the same author, including where names have changed or have been cited in a number of different ways.
  • Generate publication metrics, such as H-Index and total citation count.

Things to consider

  • Check to see if you already have an author record that you can claim before registering for a researcher profile.
  • Ensure the scholarly works listed on your researcher profile belong to you. WoS has been known to wrongly attribute research outputs to authors with similar or same names.
  • Merge duplicate author records to ensure you have just one ResearcherID associated with your publications.
  • WoS may suggest scholarly works to add to your researcher profile. You can also manually input scholarly works.
