Guide for academic staff using Readings Online.

Add readings by searching

You can search for readings in:

  • the existing repository of readings already in Readings Online
  • the library catalogue
  • databases such as google scholar



What is RIS?

  • RIS is a standard file format for citations
  • RIS saves you time in Readings Online
  • If you upload an RIS file to Readings Online it automatically fills in details of your reading.
  • RIS files are available from
    • Reference Management software
    • databases
    • google scholar
    • library catalogue

Search existing repository in Readings Online

1. Add new reading

  • Login to the LMS  and open your subject page and then click on the link for Readings Online.
  • Click on the Add button from the drop down menu and click on the Existing reading

2. Search in repository

  • click Getting Started > Find button


  • ereserve Plus will automatically be selected - this is all the readings that have previously been added to Readings Online (1)
  • select Document from drop down list (2)
  • type in search Terms (3)
  • click Find (4)

4. Select reading

  • Select your desired reading from list of results

A link to an electronic resource 

  • Will be ‘Active’ if the availability period has started or ‘Pending’ .
  • Test link by clicking on the globe icon.

PDF file 

  • Will be reviewed for copyright compliance. 
  • This usually takes 48 hours but may be longer in peak periods
  • Once approved, test that the document opens correctly.
