The Barry Tuckwell Collection

A finding aid to the scores, recordings, correspondence and other materials of the Barry Tuckwell Collection

Sound recordings

Barry Tuckwell has made more sound recordings than any other horn player. The Collection includes about 50 separate commercial recordings in CD and LP format (plus duplicates). These sound recordings are for in-house use only.

There is also a substantial quantity of non-commercial recordings - production LP pressings, reel-to-reel audio tapes, cassettes and DAT tapes - that preserve the various stages (“takes” and “edits”) of the process by which the commercial recordings were produced. Cassettes of live recordings of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra with Tuckwell as conductor are included in the collection. Some recordings are still being catalogued and are not yet available for use.

Other Tuckwell recordings

The Library also holds a number of Tuckwell sound recordings obtained independently of the Tuckwell Collection. As these recordings are not considered part of the Tuckwell Collection they can be borrowed by patrons with an approved borrowing card. Please check the library catalogue for further details.

Approved borrowers can borrow:

  • 5 CDs at a time from the Southbank Library

LP recordings are not available for loan.
