The Barry Tuckwell Collection contains over 850 items from Tuckwell’s personal library of manuscripts and published music, most relating to his career as an international horn soloist and conductor.
Particularly significant holdings include works composed especially for Tuckwell by Gunther Schuller, Alun Hoddinot, Don Banks, Thea Musgrave, Oliver Knussen, Richard Rodney Bennett and others. Unique items in the Collection include holograph scores and parts often heavily annotated by Tuckwell and housed with correspondence with the composer, which serves to illuminate the process of composition. Other unique items relate to Tuckwell’s preparation of performing editions by Mozart and Richard Strauss in particular.
Scores owned and played by Barry Tuckwell are arranged alphabetically by composer.
