There have been several Australian law reform inquiries into Indigenous issues, including:
Federal - Australian Law Reform Commission
Recognition of Aboriginal Customary Laws (ALRC Report 31, 1986)
Family Violence and Commonwealth Laws Improving Legal Frameworks (ALRC Report 117, 2012)
This inquiry did not focus only on Indigenous people. An information sheet outlines some of the ALRC’s key recommendations that were aimed at better protecting the safety of Indigenous peoples who are experiencing family violence.
