This page explains how to set up alerts so that you are notified whenever a specific case is cited, whenever there is a new case on your topic, or whenever there is a new case in a particular court. For general information on Indian legal research, see our Indian Legal Research Guide.
Indian Kanoon is an up to date open-access database of cases from the Indian Supreme Court and all High Courts. You can set up an alert so that you are notified by email or RSS when a case is subsequently cited in another judgment. Note that RSS alerts are free, but to receive email alerts, you must be a 'premium member' - this costs Rs 500 (approximately AU$10) per month. See more about premium membership.
To set up the alert:
Once you have found a case you want to track (by searching or browsing):
If your case has been cited:
You will then be notified each time a new citing case is added to Kanoon.
If your case has not been cited:
You will then be notified each time a new citing case is added to Kanoon.
The Indian Kanoon advanced search function allows sophisticated searches on topics.
Searches can be restricted by court, date, bench, citation, parties and document type. See the search tips page for information about searching Kanoon.
Once you have done your search you can set up an RSS feed and be alerted every time a new case on your topic is added to the database.
Alerts can be set up to track new cases in specific Indian courts and tribunals. Simply select 'Latest Judgments' from the Kanoon home page, then click on the RSS link beside the court or tribunal you are interested in tracking and subscribe to the feed.
