Why can't I access the article I've found online?
Look up the journal title in the library catalogue for direct access options to articles within it. Linking Google Scholar to the University of Melbourne Library catalogue and installing the Lean Library add-on can also facilitate access to articles you have found browsing online.
How do I know which database to use?
Have a look at the database lists on the Law Library website, particularly the lists ordered by type and by subject.
I can't access the ebook I need.
Publishers and subscription models can set limits on how ebooks are accessed and used. For example, there may be limits on the number of students able to read the book online at the same time and how many pages that can be downloaded and/or printed. Check the book's catalogue record for access and use restrictions, and make sure to sign out or close the ebook when you have finished reading it. For further information about using ebooks, see the library's Ebooks guide.
I'm having trouble finding relevant resources.
The library website includes a range of library guides on legal subjects and resource types. These are designed to help you find resources pertinent to your research.
I've searched the catalogue and still can't find the book I'm looking for.
Contact your law librarians who will help you source the book: law-librarians@unimelb.edu.au
The book I want is already on loan to someone else.
Select the 'Request' button on the item's catalogue record to reserve it when it is returned.
The database or journal link doesn't seem to be working.
Look up the database or journal title on the library catalogue and note the access requirements. Sometimes a password is required. Other times you may need to connect to the University VPN from home. You can always contact your law librarians for help via chat or email: law-librarians@unimelb.edu.au
