Australian Indigenous Architecture, Place-making & Design

For over 15 years the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development has connected Indigenous artists with a pathway to their future in the worlds of visual and performing arts, design, film and television and production. Situated at the heart of Melbourne's arts precinct, the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts fosters innovation in the research, development, advocacy and presentation of Indigenous arts.

Murrup Barak, Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development takes its name from the Woiwurrung language. ‘Murrup Barak’ means the Spirit of Barak. The name was chosen to honour the memory of the visionary Aboriginal leader William Barak. The name reflects our respect for Indigenous cultures and knowledge and our vision for an Institute that makes an enduring contribution to Indigenous Australia through the transformative impact of education and employment in the context of Australia’s leading University in teaching, learning, research and employability.

Reconciliation at Melbourne is a place where

Bower Studios are a sequence of Master of Architecture build/consult/design projects at The University of Melbourne’s School of Design. They involve students working alongside indigenous groups in remote locations in Australia, Thailand and Papua New Guinea to improve their built environments.
