Text mining can be a useful aid for building search strategies by identifying relevant terms and concepts related to a research question. Using natural language processing and machine learning techniques, text mining tools can help identify key terms, synonyms, analyse patterns in text and identify related concepts from an existing corpus of text such as previous research papers.
Julie Glanville, Associate Director of the systematic reviews and information services workstream at YHEC, discusses the use of PubMed PubReMiner and GoPubMed in building search strategies.
NOTE: GoPubMed is no longer available.
It is important to be aware of the restrictions and permissions around conducting text data mining on different databases and platforms as non-compliance may trigger a breach to our licence. If a breach is detected, it will impact our access to the resource with that publisher.
