Southeast Asian Region Countries Law

International Law and Myanmar Law

Under Section 209 of the Constitution (2008), the President, in accordance with the law :

  • (a) shall enter into, ratify or annul international, regional or bilateral treaties which require the approval of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, or revoke from such treaties ;
  • (b) may enter into, ratify or annul international, regional or bilateral treaties which do not require the approval of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, or revoke from such treaties.

There is no official Myanmar treaty series - nor a Myanmar online platform containing all treaties to which it is a party. The best way to find all bilateral and multilateral treaties to which Myanmar is a party is to use the United Nations Treaty Series Online - this resource is official and up to date. Select Participant Search from the top menu, and then Myanmar from the drop-down list of countries. To cite treaties, use the UNTS citation provided in this database.

The Myanmar Law Library database has a collection of international treaties concerning Investment Law and ASEAN law.
